Delete my data
Bulawayo Pulse and the Zimbabwe Pulse Android app have no accounts, so there is no settings screen to do this from. You ask us, and we do it. This page says exactly how, and exactly what goes.

How to ask
- 1Email hello@byopulse.com with "Delete my data" as the subject.
- 2Send it from the address you gave us, or, if you can't, say which address it was. That is the only thing we use to find your records, because it is the only identifier we hold.
- 3We delete it and reply to confirm, within 7 days. You do not need to give a reason and we will not ask for one.
Faster, if all you want is to stop the emails: every email we send carries a one-click unsubscribe, and that removes the subscription immediately without waiting on us.
What gets deleted, and what stays
Email subscriptions
DeletedNotice alerts for your suburb, and the "tell me when my city launches" signup in the app. The address and the suburb or city attached to it are deleted outright.
Things you submitted
Deleted, with one exceptionFeedback, a place you added, an edit you suggested, a report you filed. Any contact detail you left is deleted. If a submission has already been published as a directory entry, the public civic fact itself stays (a clinic's address is not personal data), but nothing linking it to you remains.
Anti-spam IP hashes
Expires on its ownA same-day salted hash of the submitting IP, kept only to stop form abuse. It cannot be reversed into an IP address and the salt rotates daily, so it stops corresponding to anything the next day. There is nothing to look up and nothing to delete by hand.
The app's update identifier
You clear itA random identifier the Zimbabwe Pulse app generates on your phone the first time it runs, and sends when it checks for an update. It is not linked to your email or to anything you submitted, and we cannot look you up by it. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app removes it, and the next install generates an unrelated one.
What we never had in the first place
There is no account, no password, no profile and no advertising identifier to delete, because none is ever created. The city you pick in the app and the suburb you pick on the website are stored on your own device and never sent to us, so clearing the app's storage or your browser's site data removes them without involving us at all.
Backups
Deletion applies to the live database immediately. A weekly backup is taken for disaster recovery and kept for 90 days before it rotates out, so a copy of a deleted record can survive there for up to that long. Restoring a backup is an emergency operation, not routine, and anything deleted on request is deleted again if a restore ever brings it back.
The rest of the picture
This page covers deletion only. What we collect in the first place, why, and every processor that touches it is set out in full on the privacy page. You can also ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, using the same address above.
